Cowboys-Colts: A History of Blowouts

By no means is the rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts great and memorable. Both teams have a plethora of Hall of Fame and other great players participate in this rivalry that goes back to 1961. The most famous game of course was Super Bowl V – from the 1970 season played in January of 1971. This still may be the ugliest of Super Bowls; many people refer to this as the Blunder Bowl. It is the other side of the spectrum that folks need to make note.

The Cowboys and Colts have played 18 games now (counting Super Bowl V). Eight of those game have been decided by 20 points or more:

1961 – Colts 45 Dallas 7 Bob Lilly's rookie season

1972 – Cowboys 21 Colts 0

1978 – Cowboys 38 Colts 0 Opening Monday Night following Super Bowl XII Championship

1981 – Cowboys 37 Colts 13 Glen Carano was Dallas' QB

1993 – Cowboys 27 Colts 3 Novachek fake FG rush TD

2014 – Cowboys 42 Colts 7 Romo scored on 1st 4 possessions

2018 – Colts 23 Cowboys 0 Running game & defense stifles the Cowboys

2022 – Cowboys 54 Colts 19 Lethargic first 3 quarters followed by 33 point 4th quarter.

So a blowout in this game should surprise no one.
