Wrong focus for PreSeason games for most fans

Focusing on the rookies in preseason games is understandable, but produces a lot of angst for too many fans. The players that should be watched more closely are the 2nd and 3rd year players who should be stepping up into productive roles. There are too many HOF players to count who didn’t get real opportunities to contribute until their 2nd or 3rd seasons – which is why that, while it ia interesting to track the rookie performances of players, it is more productive as a fan to track the progress of players who’ve been on the roster longer.

Here is a look at the 2021 rookies:

Starters – Parsons, Odighizuwa

Back up players – Golston, Cox, Ball, Mukuamu, Farniok

In serious danger – Joseph, Wright, Fehoko, Bohanna,

To be cut – Coyle

After Coyle is cut, the Cowboys will have no undrafted rookies from 2021 left on the roster, and 3-4 of the 11 draft picks in danger of being cut.

2022 rookie class:

Starters – Smith, Ferguson, Clark, Bland

Back up players – Williams, Tolbert, Harper, Waletzko, Bell, Hendershot,

In serious danger – Malik Davis, Dennis Houston,

The Cowboys already have 4 starters from last year’s rookie Class, with at least two more, if not three, looking like they’ll eventually become starters.

These are the guys who should be getting all the attention in preseason, not the rookies.
