The importance of the Tush Push

The advantage Philly has with the tush push is greatly understated. Not only do you have 9 yards to go at the start of every first down, but it provides opportunities throughout the game that are just game changers. If you have third and 1 or 2nd and 2, you basically have a free down to play with.

Week in and week out you see where teams could have won games if they had a tush push. Our recent games provide some great examples of the importance of the tush push. With the game still in the balance late in the third quarter, Washington turned the ball over twice on downs. The first time they had 3rd and 1 and failed twice to convert. The second time they had a 4th and 1 and failed. Yesterday, Seattle turned it over twice on downs after a failed 4th and 1 and failed 3rd and 2 late in the second half. We also failed to score on a first and goal from the 2 on the first drive. Philly doesn’t ever kick a field goal on first and goal from the 2. How big would those missed 4 points have been? One of the big plays in our game vs Philly was when they converted a 4th and 1 from their own 32! Any other team punts on 4th and 1 from their own 32. Philly turns it into a Touchdown.

This play is almost revolutionary and the fact that no one else is doing it is almost criminal.
