Immediately following the broadcast, the talking heads transitioned again but this time in acknowledging the Dallas win over Seattle they opened another door and are now asking to see more from the Cowboys after watching them barely eke out a win over a team that’s been completely void of offense in recent weeks.
O.k. guys. A line must be drawn somewhere, doesn’t it? Is the narrative that this organization can’t get it done going to continually shift right up to final gun as the Cowboys come up three points shy of defeating the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII? At that time will you shamelessly pound your fist and say, “See, same thing all the time. This team’s a bunch of choke artists! I knew it.”?
As for me, this team’s day of reckoning is fast approaching, and they have a great opportunity to at least put some of this nonsense to bed. A win against Philly is affirmation that the NFC is realistically going to be contested by three serious contenders – not two, and that it’s time to move the goalpost back toward legitimizing the Cowboys as a threat to be an NFC title contender.
Now, if you’re in the contingent whose primary takeaway of a Cowboys victory over the Eagles would be that it’s only a marginally meaningful win since it’s not in the playoffs, may I kindly suggest that you sit out the remainder of the regular season and first two rounds of the playoffs and rejoin the faithful Cowboy fans to watch the conference title game. After all, if it’s the holy grail or bust, why waste your time? Go, spend time with family, take up a new hobby, clean the hunting and fishing gear. We’ll let you back on the bus when you’re ready.
Curious to hear your takes on this. From your perspective, If the Cowboys are victorious in Jerry’s Playhouse on Dec 10, should it squelch the perception of this team being only capable of man-handling the dregs of the league and the also-rans, or will the collective stand firm in its position that success for this outfit, more so than others (not sure why), can only be validated by the Cowboys taking the field on Jan. 28, 2024?
