It’s a violent game and many QBs lose it at 30

QB is a hard position to make people happy. Even Troy Aikman was jeered out of the stadium his last years. Aikman quickly lost it at age 30, and maybe we’re starting to see it with Dak? Reading this message board, it’s easy to think in extremes with our QB. But I would like to think most of us were cautiously optimistic about Dak going into 2023.

We’ve seen some increasing inconsistencies and regressions. But it wasn’t that long ago that Dak was the Brock Purdy of the NFL – a cool, calm, collected rookie QB making all the right decisions and looking like he could go all the way in the Playoffs. Or how about 2018 when he got Coop and started lighting the offense up! Or even last year’s Playoffs. As disappointing as the San Francisco game, you can’t deny Dak was perfect in that Tampa game.

Like all veteran professional QBs, you won’t hear Dak complain about the injuries. Only the reporters will bring it up. The most unsolicited emotional shot we’ll get is the game when he was sitting on the field with his foot pointed the wrong direction. It’s also easy to forget that while not a mobile QB in the mold of someone like Josh Alllen, the run was part of Dak’s game in college and the pros, and he paid the price. Maybe just like Donovan McNabb, Cam Newton, Steve McNair, Daunte Culpepper and other mobile QBs who very quickly lost it at 30? Not everyone can be an Aaron Rodgers and take that beating to age 40.

I agree with others that we may have just seen the beginning of the end for Dak. This is the first time in his career where we can honestly say if he doesn’t rebound, he may not be on the team next year. For those who are eager to see that, and think Trey Lance is the chosen one, I want to remind you of the misery we went through with Jerry’s last hand-picked project QBs… Drew Henson, Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson and the Gang!

Never say never. The season is only five games. It was a total punch in the mouth, but it can turn around. Especially with so much parity and limited roster depth. I’m more concerned that the ENTIRE team laid an egg. Hey, at least it was a team effort! But I’m rooting that Dak can turn it around. Like Romo, I cheer for Dak and hope it won’t all suddenly end from age and injuries. These guys all deserve a Super Bowl shot and it’s sad seeing so many all-time Cowboys walk into the sunset without one these days. That’s not a QB problem, that’s a GM/Owner problem.
