I was initially, unexcited by our draft. It wasn’t glitzy and it didn’t involve many Jerry deals.
The draft has always been a big thing for me since the end of Gil Brandt/Tom Landry/Tex Schramm days so my apologies, in advance, for prematurely commenting.
Round 1: No. 26 – Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan – looked as suggested pre-draft. Solid against the run.
Round 2: No. 58 – Luke Schoonmaker, TE, Michigan – 1st outing after injury but he’s going to be a good player provided he isn’t as fragile as David Lafleur turned out to be
Round 3: No. 90 – DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Texas – seriously impressed with his all-round game. Really excited by what we may have found in late R3.
Round 4: No. 129 – Viliami Fehoko, DE, San Jose State – no opinon. No great expectations.
Round 5: No. 169 – Asim Richards, OT, North Carolina – looked serviceable and gave me more optimisim than our incumbent backups on OL.
Round 6: No. 178 (from CHI through MIA via KC) – Eric Scott, Jr. DB, Southern Miss – no real expectation other than the hype from Oxnard. Didn’t look great.
Round 6: No. 212 – Deuce Vaughn, RB, Kansas State – Far better than expected. Real zip and has a place on this roster. Hope his body holds up.
Round 7: No. 244 – Jalen Brooks, WR, South Carolina – looks good for R7. No great expectation to make this roster.
Looks solid so far. Better than I thought. 4 potential starters in Y2 or Y3 is as good as you’d hope selecting this low in each round.
